I hope everyone had a great Christmas! It sucked going from having three weeks off during college to getting two days off from work. But I’m so glad I was able to spend time with my family and the boyfriend. 🙂 These are the only pics I feel like uploading right now. This is a good reason why my mom is so adorable… her Santa paraphernalia.
I’m knitting my second… and third blanket! Like my first blanket, I’ve stuck with blues and greens. Once I get out of the blues phase, I can move onto other colors. I plan on knitting an IU blanket in the near future! Until then, you’ll be seeing a lot of the cooler color palette!
With one of the blankets, I’m doing two colors at a time, with different rows of green, blue and gray combinations.
I just started knitting this blanket yesterday, and I couldn’t stop. For five hours. I was a knitting madwoman. This one is very simple, I’m knitting a blue and gray striped blanket. There is more blue than gray in the pattern.
I guess I didn’t realize how much blue I’ve been knitting. The blue and gray blanket is for my boyfriend, but I’m not sure who will end up with the blue, green and gray blanket. Maybe my next friend that gives birth to a little boy will receive this at their baby shower! Come on friends, this is a challenge to you. Who wants it?
I have completed the first Harry Potter book, and it didn’t take me very long at all! J.K. Rowling is an excellent author, and it was a very easy read. I was told that the first book is the most child-like one, them being 11 years old and all.
To everyone who has read and watched all things Harry Potter: I am officially hooked. I was literally at the edge of my seat when I was nearing the end of the book, because it totally threw me for a loop! The entire time, we’re led to believe that Snape was the bad guy, then BAM. The stuttering, always-scared Professor Quirrell ended up being the bad guy. I didn’t see that coming.
My favorite character in this book is Hagrid, he’s so adorable with his dragon, Norbert (sad he had to give him up). He’s like a big teddy bear. On the other hand, I wanted to bitch-slap Snape the entire book. Why is that guy such an ass?
Netflix will be delivering Harry to me tomorrow, so I will be able to watch the first installment this weekend.
I’ve never really been into books and movies like this (other than the Wicked series), so I’m actually surprised that I loved the book so much. Very excited to start on the second installment! A little word to all the people who have refused to read and watch Harry Potter: give it up! You must read it…it is totally worth the time.
My boyfriend’s sister recently found out that I have never read any of the Harry Potter books, or watched any of the movies. After a few minutes of gasping and asking “SERIOUSLY?” a few times, she told me how I’ve completely missed out. Really, the reason I didn’t watch or read any of it was because everybody else was. I zoned out all the conversations my friends had about Hogwarts, Dumbledore, and how hot Hermione was becoming. One time, I stood in line with a friend while she was buying the last book. When she got it, I grabbed it and read the last sentence. “I know exactly what happens,” I said. I thought I was so cool not reading the books or watching the movies, as if I was above it. Until I went with my boyfriend and his sister to see the most current movie. And I really liked it. “Dammit,” I said. “Now I want to read the books…I guess I’d give Harry a shot now.”
For Hanukkah, I was put to the test, because as I opened my Hanukkah presents, I saw the first four Harry Potter books sitting in front of me.
I’ve started on the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (I know all you Potterheads know the title, but I’m treating this like I’m a kid, starting from scratch with the series). I was recently in a meeting at work, and I couldn’t focus on what was being said. All I cared about was what house Harry was going to be Sorted to. “Please, let it be Gryffindor!” I shouted a small “yes!” when the Sorting hat shouted “GRYFFINDOR!”
I plan on watching each movie after reading the book. Also, I plan on reading and watching all the movies in 2011. Maybe this should be a more realistic New Year’s resolution instead of losing 15 more pounds. Here goes nothing!
It has been exactly two months since I last wrote in my blog. I guess I had some major writer’s block, because I honestly didn’t feel like writing, and I didn’t miss it a whole lot. But recently I’ve started using Google Reader to read blogs, and it gave me a hankerin’ to start back up with Knapptown. This blog used to be called “Temporarily Insane,” because I was working as an Administrative Temp for about a year, and I was “going insane.” Now that I’ve got a full-time job, Temporarily Insane didn’t make sense to me anymore. If anyone can think of a better name than “Knapptown” for a blog name, let me know! I’m thinking about more exciting things to write about on here, so hopefully in the near future I will have more activity on my page.
The last ten nights, I have woken up at 4:30am sharp. Wide awake. I could jump out of bed and finish my to-do list or read a chunk of my book if I wanted. But all I desire is sleep. I’m always really tired during the day, why do I have to be wide awake at 4:30am?
Last night in particular was a rough one. I woke up, and took a look at the clock. It screamed back at me with its bright blue light that it was 4:30. I made a mental note to get a new alarm/iPod dock that didn’t have such a bright blue light, while resisting the urge to chuck it across the room. I sat up in bed to try to remember what day it was. In the first few seconds, I hoped it was Saturday morning and I could just fall back to sleep without stress. Nope, I remembered, tomorrow is Thursday. Frick. I counted how many hours I had until I had to wake up, and realized I’d have to wake up in 2 hours. Double frick.
So I tried to relax myself back to sleep as if I was in yoga class, then kept thinking I had to pee. Damn it, not now, I told myself. But my bladder kept nagging at me, and the more I tried to sleep, the more I kept telling myself to just get up and go to the bathroom. It would take two seconds, and then I could get back to my amateur meditation. I stumbled to the bathroom while almost stepping on my cat. Wait, that’s my roommate’s cat. “Sorry Lucy,” I said in my sleepy man voice.
I successfully went to the bathroom and stumbled back into bed. Then, I nagged at myself that I should get a glass of water. My man voice was proving that my throat was a little sore, and I should just go and get it over with while I was still awake. But of course I had to lay there for a few more minutes to reason with myself. Is water more important than sleep? I had just started getting cozy again. But ultimately, I knew it would be worth it, meaning I could quench my thirst then try to sleep again. By the time I had my water in hand and reached my bed again, the bright blue light was flashing 4:40.
At 5am, it was now in my head that I had to wake up in an hour and a half. I was still wide awake, and my yoga meditation was not working. I almost always fall asleep during the meditation portion of yoga class, but of course I can’t in my own bed. I quickly thought of maybe lying on my floor to pretend I was in class, then dismissed it. Then, my cat decided to jump into bed and climb onto my stomach and stare at me for a while until I pet her. Ugh, 5:15am.
After my cat got what she wanted and stalked away to fight with my roommate’s cat, I finally fell asleep. Then, what felt like five minutes later, I woke up again around 6:20. Ten minutes, ten minutes! before my alarm was going to blare my favorite Coldplay song (Strawberry Swing). Frick.
Well hello! I’m back after taking a good month-ish break from my blog. I felt I was going nowhere with it, and that I was just trying to be funny and failing. When you’re writing about pooping in public, you should probably re-evaluate where you are going with your writing… Anyway. I have also changed the name of my blog, because [gasp!] I’m no longer a temp. After a year and a half, I will finally be hired on full-time. Somebody loves me! Expect to hear more about that later. 🙂
