Humpday rant.

Since it’s Wednesday, which is generally considered the hardest day of the week (it really is, I read it on the Cosmo website, and Cosmo is ALWAYS right), I decided to rant about a couple of things. It always helps to rant. Especially if you’re out of wine.

1. I have a sinus infection. Balls. I’m also trying out a Neti Pot for the first time [insert Lucille Ball whiny noise here].

2. Sometimes during my lunch breaks, I work out in the building next door. My work friend and I are usually lucky to have the gym to ourselves, but since New Years Resolutions haven’t fizzled yet, there have been some more people there. I walked into the bathroom/shower area today, and almost ran into a completely naked woman. Just standing there, out in the open, putting on her deodorant as if she were alone in her own bathroom. HELLO? I don’t want to see that! I understand you’re comfortable enough to walk around naked, but I’m not comfortable with your sisters hanging out.

3. Snow. I’m not even going to say anything else. Wait, one thing. SPRING WHERE THE EFF ARE YOU?

Are white keds really thaaaaat bad?

Okay, friends. I need opinions. Sometimes I wear white keds, especially with more casual clothes. And some people have started judging me. I admit, I bought them for a Halloween costume… I was going to be a stereotypical 90s mom (equipped with mom jeans and holiday vest) and these were perfect. They were really comfortable though, so I wore them a couple of times making the excuse that I forgot to bring other shoes so I had to wear them… and then just kept wearing them. Are they really that bad?

I’d like to prove that they aren’t as bad as people are saying. Here’s a few pics of people rocking them:

And hey, at least I’m not wearing these:

Meet Sophie.

This is Sophie. She may look sweet….

I may overfeed her. But she doesn't mind.

But we have a love/hate relationship. She started out as our family’s pet. After she grew up, she stubbornly decided she wanted to be an outside cat. We thought she ran away for good, but put food out for her anyway. It was after we started discovering dead birds and mice on our front porch that we realized she wanted to stay. How lucky we were. She’s about nine years-old now, and shouldn’t be outside during the winter. So my senior year at IU, I did her a favor and brought her to Bloomington with me to live. We’ve been roommates for three years now. I promise I’m not a creepy cat lady.

I imagine that if she could talk, she’d sound a lot like Cathy Bates. Maybe a more sassy and or/creepy Cathy Bates, like her character in Misery. She hates it, but I take a lot of pictures of her. Keep a look out for more to come.

Bitch, I will cut you if you don't cuddle with me.

I’m a happy little monster.

I’m a little slow with the news this week, but I just read that Lady Gaga’s album “Fame Monster” was just named the best-selling album of 2010. And I’m not surprised! As you all know, I’m a GINORMOUS Gaga fan (so much so, that I only refer to her as Gaga sans Lady, like we’re best friends.) I went to her concert with a girlfriend of mine on my birthday in July, and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to (and I’ve seen Coldplay and Nsync, so that’s saying a lot 🙂 ). I’m more than excited for her new album, Born This Way, to come out. She’s going to be making an announcement about it on New Year’s Eve, and I’m going to be (drunkenly) glued to the tv (if I can hear it at the bar) to see what it’s going to be.

Reasonable resolutions.

Here are my reasonable New Year’s resolutions, as follows:

1) Stop saying the word “sammich.” It’s sandwich. I’m not five years old anymore.

2) I’m not going to vow to lose weight. That will just make me binge eat sandwiches (omg, I did it!) and cookies. I will vow, though, to stick with my workouts. If I have scheduled a workout (at Mindful Movement Studio, those living in the Indianapolis area should really check them out!), I cannot cancel it last-minute.

3) Read all the Harry Potter books and watch all the (released) movies. I’ve already started (as you can see here and here)!

4) Learn cross-stitching. This one is random. I feel like I could be good at it, since I’ve been knitting quite a bit. I’ve been a crafty girl this year (blanket 1 and blanket 2 & 3).

5) Complete workshops at ComedySportz Indianapolis. This one is the most exciting. I started taking improvisation workshops at ComedySportz Indianapolis this year, and level 2 begins in January. I’m really excited to see where that little adventure will take me.

I hope everyone has a fabulous time celebrating the new year!

the Chamber of Secrets has been opened.

As you know (all 3 of you), I’ve been reading the Harry Potter books for the first time. Here is how the dialog went between me and my boyfriend while I was reading the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:

Me: Omg. Hagrid opened the chamber of secrets!
Dan: Omg.
[one hour later]
Me: Omg. Hagrid DIDN’T open the chamber of secrets!
Dan: Omg.

Seriously, I am more hooked on Harry Potter than I was hooked on boys in middle school and high school COMBINED. Would it be weird to join a Harry Potter fan club at the age of 24? I’m sure I could meet some pretty interesting people.

What is the deal with Draco Malfoy? Can we please discuss this, because I’d like to put a mad spell on him, to correct his attitude and so he can stop slicking his hair back like a 50 year-old television anchor in the 80s.

Holiday hangover.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! It sucked going from having three weeks off during college to getting two days off from work. But I’m so glad I was able to spend time with my family and the boyfriend. 🙂 These are the only pics I feel like uploading right now. This is a good reason why my mom is so adorable… her Santa paraphernalia.

I’m crafty! Never thought I’d say that.

I’m knitting my second… and third blanket! Like my first blanket, I’ve stuck with blues and greens. Once I get out of the blues phase, I can move onto other colors. I plan on knitting an IU blanket in the near future! Until then, you’ll be seeing a lot of the cooler color palette!

With one of the blankets, I’m doing two colors at a time, with different rows of green, blue and gray combinations.

I just started knitting this blanket yesterday, and I couldn’t stop. For five hours. I was a knitting madwoman. This one is very simple, I’m knitting a blue and gray striped blanket. There is more blue than gray in the pattern.

I guess I didn’t realize how much blue I’ve been knitting. The blue and gray blanket is for my boyfriend, but I’m not sure who will end up with the blue, green and gray blanket. Maybe my next friend that gives birth to a little boy will receive this at their baby shower! Come on friends, this is a challenge to you. Who wants it?

Book 1: done!

I have completed the first Harry Potter book, and it didn’t take me very long at all! J.K. Rowling is an excellent author, and it was a very easy read. I was told that the first book is the most child-like one, them being 11 years old and all.

To everyone who has read and watched all things Harry Potter: I am officially hooked. I was literally at the edge of my seat when I was nearing the end of the book, because it totally threw me for a loop! The entire time, we’re led to believe that Snape was the bad guy, then BAM. The stuttering, always-scared Professor Quirrell ended up being the bad guy. I didn’t see that coming.

My favorite character in this book is Hagrid, he’s so adorable with his dragon, Norbert (sad he had to give him up). He’s like a big teddy bear. On the other hand, I wanted to bitch-slap Snape the entire book. Why is that guy such an ass?

Netflix will be delivering Harry to me tomorrow, so I will be able to watch the first installment this weekend.

I’ve never really been into books and movies like this (other than the Wicked series), so I’m actually surprised that I loved the book so much. Very excited to start on the second installment! A little word to all the people who have refused to read and watch Harry Potter: give it up! You must read it…it is totally worth the time.
